Still waiting for 106 benefit

From the archive, first published Thursday 23rd Mar 2006.

Dear editor I have just read your article on the pipeline and 106 agreements and read council leader John Davies' comment that it is important we benefit communities through developments, as we have in many respects in Waterston.

Living at the moment as I do in Waterston, I would like to ask him exactly how Waterston has benefited through the 106 agreement? The money was spent on road developments (there was nothing wrong with the old roads ) to incorporate a large junction in the middle of the village and give right of way to Dragon LNG.

What on earth does a small village like Waterston want with a large junction in the middle of it, it will be impossible to cross the road. It was also spent on signage for Dragon LNG.

Meanwhile, our school has been shut down and we have no Post Office or shop. The houses on eastern Main Road are constantly dirty with the substantial increase in road traffic and we suffer sleepless nights due to constant road traffic.

We are also to be living with great safety risks due to the petrochemical depot, the LNG site, the regasification site and proposed power station in the middle of the village, all on the same site. How much 106 money is that worth? Yes, lessons must be learned.
