Tigers gone but Wizards stay in touch

Merlins Bridge 3 Johnston 0 MERLINS Bridge know that the destiny of the title is ultimately out of their hands but all they can do is keep winning and hope that the Swifts slip up.

And the Wizards dispatched Johnston with the minimum of fuss to condemn the bottom-placed side to a quick return to life in division two.

Two Danny Williams goals and a strike from Adam Raymond finally confirmed the relegation which has haunted Johnston all season.

On a typically windy Racecourse the Bridge dominated throughout but only had a slender one-goal lead at the break.

The Wizards controlled the possession and Johnston were left to chase the ball all over the park.

And the opening goal showed the difference between the teams. Raymond stepped up and fired a free-kick from outside the area sweetly beyond Johnston keeper Steve James.

After the break the Bridge finally sealed the game and took three very deserved points from the contest.

Williams produced two clinical finishes and it now looks certain that the Wizards will clinch second place at least and will hope to be there or thereabouts come next season.

Meanwhile Johnston will look to rebuild and come back to division one stronger and more capable of staying up.
